Mini CD con 4 temas de esta legendaria banda de Florida que practica un pesado Death Metal que mezcla influencias de grupos europeos como CARCASS/ GRAVE con el sonido americano de bandas como ROTTREVORE/ INCANTATION.
KILLING ADDICTION made a huge impact on me with their "Necrosphere" 7' EP (1991). By the time, most of the bands coming from Florida were playing a similar style of Death Metal. But these guys were far apart from their fellow state bands. Ultra heavy Death Metal, bordering on Doom Metal with hints of Groove and Grindcore outbursts. It was simply amazing and Patrick Bailey's vocals were the lowest kind of growl I had heard back then. Then came their debut album, another EP (which was also released as a split with ETERNE DE SADE) and then the band split up in late '98. Luckily, they reformed with the original line-up in 2006 and released the amazing "Fall Of The Archetypes" LP in 2010. A total behemoth of an album, which kept their style intact. Followed by an independent EP in 2014. The "Shores Of Oblivion" EP was released by Xtreem Music from Spain in 2016. And words cannot describe how good these songs are. I mean, I think I have covered all bases describing their style above but these 4 new tracks showcase that KILLING ADDICTION is still one of the heaviest bands in the world. Although the band still dwells into that cavernous, primitive and evil atmosphere, the production is stellar. All instruments bond perfectly with each other, with a very organic feel and sound. The vocals intertwine with the music perfectly. Patrick still has a great set of vocals and delivers some bass lines. Chris York pounds his drums mercilessly, adding some intricate parts and tasty fills. And both Chris Wicklein and Chad Bailey (Pat's brother) churn out some twisted and solid riffs. All I can say is that 4 songs (clocking at 15 minutes) is just too short. But then this is an EP. Producer / engineer Ray Helton did an amazing job bringing out the characteristic elements of the band and highlighting their performances. This is as heavy as a ton of bricks. Yet, it also has a technical side, which brings another dimension to the style KILLING ADDICTION is already known for: ultra heavy Death Metal! Since the huge loss of Chad Bailey, who passed away on September 2016, the band added Mike Serden on guitar. The band has kept playing and I am definitively looking forward for their next release. So, if you ever come across any of KILLING ADDICTION's releases, buy them! You will not be disappointed! "We are anger. We are vile. Wolves among the flock."
Florida’s Killing Addiction have returned with a monstrous 4 track offering entitled “Shores Of Oblivion”, which could be one of the best recordings of the bands career. This is the first material I have heard from the band since the godly “Omega Factor” back in 1993, and I must say that the material and feel of Killing Addiction’s music has grown by leaps and bounds since that release. While staying true to the blueprint of traditional death metal, the band has decided to become somewhat more “technical” in the solo department as well as the overall construction of their material.
The production on this release really stands out and brings all of the elements together to a precise point of metallic bliss that could definitely stand the test of time against bands like Sinister, Malevolent Creation, Jungle Rot, Grave, Deicide, Vital Remains, and other bands such as these. It seems as if Killing Addiction draw on a lot of influences and vibes from these bands throughout the duration of these 4 tracks. The riffs, while not all that polished, come across clear and actually blur the lines between death/thrash and I am going to go out on a limb and say progressive but only in terms of how the material is presented. The brutality is still there, it just seems that the band takes the “long way around” in regards to the brutality of their music. Just as soon as you listen to older material and this offering, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Pat Bailey’s varying vocal patterns on this EP are seemingly chosen with care and placed for maximum effect, and with those varying patterns comes an extra push into new depths of awesomeness and brutality. The low growls have not really changed from what I have heard in the past, and there is a unique delivery in his mid-range vocals that really fits where the band is at right now. Now, as far as the drum work goes, Chris York is a beast. I really like his style and he is extremely traditional in his delivery. His talent and ability on this effort is fluent as any drummer can be playing this style of metal. I would rate him right up there with drummers like Steve Asheim from Deicide, Alex Marquez from Solstice, and Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel.
Killing Addiction have been around for years and the fact that they are still going strong really says something for their love for this genre as well as their dedication to it. Their origins date all the way back to 1989 and they only have 7 releases. That also says to me that they aren’t just going to do something half-assed and release it just to have something out. No, they are going to take their time with their music and release something that is high quality. Killing Addiction is not going to release anything that is sub-standard. You can tell from these 4 tracks that they have too much respect for death metal than that. Just as the band dedicated this EP to the memory of Chad Baily 1969-2016, I would like to dedicate this review to his memory in the same manner. There is no doubt in my mind that he would approve of what the band has done here!

Killing Addiction, editaron el pasado 2016 este mcd titulado "Shores Of Obliveon", ellos son ese tipo de bandas que están sumergidas en un plano similar a muchas que conocemos y que están en la palestra con cada álbum, sin embargo, ellos no han tenido la suficiente atención y reconocimiento de algunos sectores, si ya sabemos, se asoma la palabra justicia, lo que a veces no es lo suficientemente retribuido y aquí caemos en el sentido práctico, y si a ellos no les interesa, también tocamos el punto de la creación sin miramientos, tomando los conceptos de producir y componer temas de auto-satisfacción, que de algún modo es lo que se trata la música, algunos lo entienden así otros no, lo cierto es que los norteamericanos han editado una obra bien diseñada y confeccionada y una vez mas nos muestran de el cuero en que están hechos, es un mcd de 4 temas, donde pasan a hacer lo dificil, facil. Las composiciones están rodeadas bajo esta premisa, en el guitarreo constante y la fabulosa creación de sus guitarristas, así como ese tamboreo característico en sus temas, marca registrada de la casa, "Omega Factor" en su momento fue un discazo, eclipsado de alguna forma por otros detalles, "Fall Of The Archetypes", ratifico igualmente la continuación de aquel excelente debut, ahora en este ep, nos introducen de nuevo en su mundo lleno del más puro, genuino y contundente death metal, tal y como debe ser, notamos una más clara y pulida producción y unas mejoras que ya hemos ido percibiendo a medida que han pasado los años y con cada registro discográfico, causa de la experiencia y la claridad musical cosa que jamas han defraudado a los oyentes y a los que escuchamos este estilo, que cada vez que apreciamos este tipo de canciones y agrupaciones, seguras en lo que hacen, el resultado no puede ser mas satisfactorio. Ellos conjugan el balance perfecto entre la brutalidad y la pesadez, lastimosamente nos quedan las ganas de seguir escuchando mas piezas, lo que quiere decir que es un buen trabajo, de alguna forma puede que sea el abrebocas a su próximo disco, es impredecible. Killing Addiction, están en plena forma, como dato adicional podemos añadir que uno de sus miembros fundadores, el guitarrista Chad Baley, murió de una penosa enfermedad, tras la consecución de este mini cd y que queda de alguna forma como obra póstuma, esperemos que su hermano Patrick Baley y el resto de los integrantes, no mermen en su intenciones y se mantengan tan sólidos como ha sido, sin dudas uno de los mejores grabaciones del año pasado
This is the latest EP from Killing Addiction, a death metal band from the US.
Having enjoyed their short-yet-brutal 2014 EP When Death Becomes an Art, it’s good to hear some new material from these veterans.
This EP is 15 minutes of classic, 90s-styled USDM with plenty of groove and brutality. The band also incorporate some older, aggressive thrash into their attack here and there, as well as allowing themselves to descend into deathgrind on occasion. Taken all together, the band have plenty of savagery in their sound to satisfy.
Despite the old-school core of the band, it’s clear that Killing Addiction don’t completely wallow in the past and elements of newer and more modern influences can be heard in the songs too. The end result is four tracks that have a timeless quality to them and you can imagine Shores of Oblivion almost coming out in any death metal era you can name.
Taking the sharp edge of Carcass, the rolling brutality of Obituary and Bolt Thrower, the heavy gloom of Incantation, the grindcore of Napalm Death and the infectious aggression of Kreator, Killing Addiction take all of these old-school influences, (and more), and coat them in their own belligerent take on death metal.
Killing Addiction are a band form Florida that has been around for more than 20 years and plays a brutal and old school style of death metal with a touch of grindcore and this is a review of their 2016 ep "Shores Of Oblivion" which was released by Xtreem Music.
A very heavy and brutal sound starts off the album along with some grooves, melodies and death metal growls and after awhile grindcore screams and melodic guitar leads are added onto the recording and the music is heavily rooted in the 90's while also sounding very modern at the same time.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the solos and leads also demonstrate a great amount of talent and skill and some of the riffs also bring in a touch of thrash and clean guitars are used briefly on the last track and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Killing Addiction creates a recording that is in the old school brutal death metal vein and also adding in a touch of grindcore and they also show a great amount of improvement from their 90's material, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover philosophy, religion and society themes.
In my opinion Killing Addiction are a very great sounding old school death metal band with a touch of grindcore and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cult Of Decay" and "Into Shadow".
