3er álbum, otra obra maestra de una de las más antiguas bandas suecas de Death Metal!! Aquí no hay imitaciones, esto es el original!! SORCERY tienen su propio sonido que es a la vez malvado, pesado y pegadizo como el infierno!!
Swedish death metal is not only melodic, not only from Rogga Johansson, not only from Dan Swano, he is still old-school heavy and somewhat simple, which was invented in the late 80-ies. We know about it only from books, but the band SORCERY was there and was personally involved in the construction of this scene.
Until 1997, when SORCERY disbanded, the band released only one full-length work "Bloodchilling Tales" back in 1991. After stopping the activities of the Swedes, this album was re-released by No Colours. Again the group gathered in 2009. Two musicians of the early line-up are the guitarist/drummer Paul Johansson and vocalist Ola Malmstrom completed the line-up and released in 2013 by the label Xtreem second full-length album "Arrival At Six". Now, again they reassign their line-up, SORCERY has released "Garden Of Bones", and it's the second album after reunion. Now the group is consisting of SORDID FLESH musicians, excluding the two founders.
Returnees are of two types. First, sensitively capturing the dictates of time, rebuild their own sound. Recorded in the best studios, show that mastodon know how play modern sound. The second type loves his youth. These musicians demonstrate a clear commitment to its original source and give the albums that might come out in the 90s and not much would be allocated on the general background. Moreover, even in those days, these records could confound some of the innovators, not caring about the orthodox purity of their sound. SORCERY is related to the second part of returnees. No trendy beats, no meat "signature swedish sound" on "Garden Of Bones", the group sounded in the style before the sound revolution. It was when death metal was still death metal and CHILDREN OF BODOM have dreamed to the fans of this music only in a nightmare. New album of SORCERY of course shakes. You can not dance when it's in your CD-player. Powerful, more monotonous tracks with screaming vocals and gloomy underground riffs. From such music can be tiring, but it is sure heavy and does not contain any compromises.
After listening to this album, you will be transported to the days when it was not IN FLAMES, DARK TRANQUILLITY and death'n'roll, and the term of death metal had not yet been corrupted by power metal fans. Quite an eye-opening journey that proves that is not all death metal that sounds like death metal.
I can make this review real quick. SORCERY's "Garden Of Bones" is soooooo good. Really. That's all you need to know. But I guess I should give more than that. Three years after Sweden's Death Metallers' "Arrival At Six", "Garden Of Bones" swarms in with buzzing electricity sure to shake the foundation of old school Death Metal to its core. Vocalist Ola Malmstrom, guitarists Paul Johannson and Johan Wickholm, bassist Jacob Wiberg and drummer Emil Berglin understand the genre. There's no filler here. It's pure brutal, kick-ass Metal throughout. The opening track 'Holy Ground' bludgeons its way through our skulls as 'The New Armageddon' lumbers and crushes into an, at first, slowed down beginning, then a fuel-driven bombast of fury. 'Insanity Arise' (a re-recording from their 1992 demo "Malculated" - Frank) saunters into the room with a thrashing, Death Metal approach that could easily have crawled from the early nineties. 'Dark Waves' winds its way into a swirling maelstrom of fast-paced guitars and catapulting drums. And the album never lets up. The burrowing guitars of 'Hellstorm', the ever-changing 'Cleansed By Fire', the pure adrenalin of 'Mass Murder (another re-recorded 1992 demo track - Frank), the classic feel of 'The Creator', the demon-driven 'Black Wings' and the final triumph of 'Garden Of Bones' make this album a force to be reckoned with. The sign of a pure Death Metal album is one that never lets up... an album that stretches out its clawed hand and squeezes the breath out of our lungs. "Garden Of Bones" is a crushing album of brilliance. Does it offer anything new? It doesn't have to. It's exactly what the undertaker ordered.
